Dan and I have been in our new house for a little less than a month. In that time, we’ve gotten so much done — but no single room really felt complete. Until now, at least. I’m ready to show off the bedroom!
(That being said, lower your expectations. It’s not that exciting.)
First things first, Dan and I had to do something about the floor. (The previous residents tore up the carpet and painted over the wood floor with a sticky blue paint.) We looked at a couple of options, but decided to go with easily installed mock-hardwood.
Then Dan (my in-house carpenter), put quarter round around the base and new white thresholds between the hallway and bathroom. Now the flooring is my favorite part of the room!
With the floor all done, we were able to situate the furniture. Our room is pretty small, so I originally wanted to place our queen-size bed at the far side of the room with the feet near the door. That way we would have nearly half of the room for open space and that would make it feel larger.
The length and width worked with walking space, however it was impossible to open the door. Plan B!
We situated the bed lengthwise in the room, which leaves us with plenty of walking room and space for nightstands on both sides.
For him:
For her:
I kind of wish that the bedside tables match. But, I also love the white Anthropologie table my parents got me for my 16th birthday.
Besides, there’s space for a lamp and books, so I’m happy!
Dan and I decided to switch up the artwork above our bed by going with the map I designed for our wedding.
I love the picture (because, well, I made it) and I love the idea of having it above our bed (“Emily and Dan meet in the middle”). But, being the slight perfectionist that I am, it bugged me that the green states didn’t match the green on the wall.
Dan to the rescue! In his words, “Forget about Oregon, South Dakota, Texas, Missouri, Indiana, Georgia, Virginia, New York and Maine…”
So we hung it up and I’ve gotten over the whole color issue.
On the other side of the room, we have our shared dresser.
Now I’m going to take back what I said about the floor: The display above the dresser is actually my favorite part of the room. I adore the engagement picture of Dan and me, the two hatboxes and my collection of vintage jewelry boxes.
Finally, for the most important and consistent feature in our bedroom…
Sorry, I didn’t try couldn’t get Tracker to move during these pictures. We’ve banned her from the new couch, so her new favorite spot is our bed. You win some, you lose some.
That’s all for our first tour! I hope you enjoyed!
