One year ago was the best day of my life.
One year ago, my best friend became my husband.
One year ago, Dan and I were married.
It’s hard to believe that 366 days have passed. I still remember every step of the run I went on that morning and the thoughts that flew through my mind. I remember driving to the church with a few of my bridesmaids while “Lucky” blared on the radio. I remember wondering what Dan was doing and what he was thinking. Most of all, however, I remember when the doors opened and I saw Dan at the end of the aisle.
That was the single best moment of my life.
Since that day, I’m proud of the ways our relationships has grown. I think that’s worth celebrating — even if it’s a little bit more low-key than last year’s bash.
Because our anniversary falls on a Monday, we celebrated on Saturday night by going to dinner Seasons 52 in Kansas City.
As soon as sitting down, our waitress asked whether we were celebrating a special occasion. We told her about our anniversary, so we were each treated to champagne and dessert. It was great service!
The food was also first-rate. Dan had “the best rainbow trout” of his life. I had the vegetarian tasting plate, which featured (clockwise from the top of the picture) a black bean taco, grilled tofu with mango chutney, chiles rellenos, roasted tomato with olive tapenade, grilled asparagus and a bulgar wheat salad with citrus dressing.
Even though the dining experience was great, Dan and I were mostly happy just to spend the time together.
Afterward, we stopped by a liquor store and bought a “pricy” $16 bottle of wine. We plan on opening it on our 50th anniversary, so we can look back and think, “Wow, we really used to drink this cheap of wine?”
Hopefully, we’ll also think fondly of our years of marriage — because, if this year is any indication, it’s just going to keep getting better.
