Realizations

If there’s one thing that I learned from my little hiatus, it’s that blogging doesn’t have to be all or nothing. Just because a post falls short of 500 words, it doesn’t mean it was worthless! Just because I don’t change the world with every message doesn’t mean I’m good-for-nothing!

If there are two things that I’ve learned, the first is the aforementioned and the second is that my life doesn’t really revolve around the blog in the way that I sometimes allow myself to believe.

Instead, here’s what I realized happens when I really live.

— Dan and I had a great time celebrating his birthday last week. I made him some German’s chocolate cupcakes then we went to dinner, rented a movie and took an evening-long break from school/work.

— On Friday, my sister and I met up downtown to work in a coffee shop and walk around for a while. I was way too pleased to discover some unintentional latte art in the bottom of her drink. Doesn’t that look like a “G”?! (It’s the little things, isn’t it?)

— Dan’s cousins were in town from Ohio, so we spent Saturday night having family dinner at Dan’s parents’ and playing a raucous game of spoons. On Sunday, we showed them The Plaza district in Kansas City and had some fun of our own.

— On Monday, I got together with one of my good friends for dinner in Lawrence. It was so nice not to worry about planning a blog post beforehand or rushing back to write later.

— Dan and I have been watching an inordinate amount of movies on the Syfy channel thanks to “30 Days of Halloween.” Most of the films have been hilariously horrible, but we watched The Mist for the first time and I can’t get it out of my head!

— I’ve also been taking more pictures with my iPhone than with my real camera. Turns out that convenience tops quality a lot of the time…

And that’s all I have for you today!
