Title Boxing Club

by Emily on July 18, 2012

After a few weeks in the new house and multiple days of 100+ degree temperatures, the novelty of running on my own treadmill wore off. Sure, the convenience of it is great, but I don’t like the fact I have to run before 7 a.m. to beat the heat in our poorly ventilated three-seasons room.

I’m also bored with my same ol’, same ol’ running routine — and supplementing my runs with some weight training never works when I’m on my own. (I am the world’s worst at sticking to a weight-lifting routine.)

It only took a few weeks of blah workouts for me to realize I didn’t like the way my body looked and felt.

Then one of my friends told me about the classes she recently started taking at Title Boxing Club in Lawrence. It was like the stars shifted into alignment and the angels started singing. It was just what I needed!

The following Monday, I bought some hand wraps and took my first class.

(I texted that picture to my sister saying, “Don’t I look intense?”)

At first, I was kind of intimidated by the idea of a boxing class. I imagined some grungy, dark room with a big ring in the middle. But, Title Boxing Club is super clean, bright and welcoming. There are also people of all ability levels and the instructors are really encouraging.

One “power hour” later, I was sweaty, sore and hooked.

Seriously, it was the most fun I’ve had with working out in a long, long time. Even though it pushed me to the edge of my physical limit, I enjoyed every minute of it and felt so strong and satisfied by the end of it.

Since then, I’ve gone back to six classes — with a mix of boxing and kickboxing — and I’m already feeling stronger. I can even make it through all the (modified) pushups!

Best of all, I look forward to the classes.

Now for the good news: If you are interested in trying out a class at Title Boxing Club in Lawrence, just tell the person at the front desk that you heard about it through my blog and they’ll give you a free class!

You might even see me there.

(Better yet, email me at pursuitofhealthfulness@gmail.com and we can plan on going to a class together!)
